Wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri) is a sleek, fast-swimming fish known for its speed and long, torpedo-shaped body. They are found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide, including the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In South Florida, wahoo are typically found offshore, often around deeper water structures such as reefs and drop-offs.

The best time to catch wahoo in South Florida is during the winter months, from November through March. This is when wahoo migrate closer to the coast and are most abundant in the region’s offshore waters. Cooler water temperatures during these months also make wahoo more active and willing to strike. They are generally more abundant around fronts or temperature breaks during these times.

Wahoo are known to be most active at dawn and dusk, when they hunt for prey near the surface. Early mornings, just after sunrise, are often the best times to hook a wahoo, as they tend to feed aggressively during this time. Late afternoon, just before sunset, can also be productive as wahoo hunt in the lower light conditions of the evening.
